Why do elderly people lose the colour around their Iris?

Writer's picture: As a Matter of FactAs a Matter of Fact

(Question by Tara)

I did some research to answer this question. What I found was that older peoples eyes change colour due to a change in emotion. ' Pupil sizes are known to be influenced by the hormones the body releases when a change in mood is triggered by being happy, sad, or angry. It’s believed that stronger emotions like anger and happiness can cause your eyes to appear more dynamic, while crying can cause your iris to appear shinier than it really is. As your pupil changes size, the pigments in the iris compress and expand causing the colour to change slightly.' (as stated form the website starstat60)

It can also be due to sunlight and people with lighter coloured eyes are more likely to have the colour change as they get older.
